Semiotics in Communication

Semiotics, what the heck does that mean? Many people who understand that it is a sign of semiotics. Yeah, right. Semiotics derived from the Greek, meaning semeion sign or rather extensive study of a series of objects - objects, events - events, as well as the whole culture as a sign.

There are two figures who helped color the analysis of the modern semiotics, Ferdinand de Saussure was a linguist who came from Switzerland and Charles Sanders Peirce, American philosopher.

Saussure explains there are six basic principles of semiotics:
Structural Principles. Seen as a sign of unity between something that is material and conceptual. The focus of research is the relation between these elements, because of the relation will produce meaning.
Principles of Unity. A sign is an entity that can not be separated between the field marker that is concrete or a material with a field marker.
Conventional principle. The relation between signifier (the signifier) and sign (the signified) is very dependent on what is called a convention, namely the social consensus about the language (the sign and significance) between the language communities.
Synchronic principle. The sign is seen as a system that remains in the context of time that is considered a constant, stable and unchanging.
Principles of Representation. The sign represents a reality that became a reference or references.
Principle of Continuity. The relation between the sign system and its users are socially viewed as a continuum, refers to the structure that has never changed.
In communications, a sign is an important element to produce effective communication. Communication is divided into two parts associated with the sign.First, verbal communication is communication that uses symbols or signs such as verbal and written language. Second, non-verbal communication, ie communication that uses symbols or non-verbal signs such as body language, gestures, eye contact and facial expressions. Both of these greatly affect the success of a communication which was built by the communicator with communicant. Communications are built with elements of verbal and non verbal aims to build the same meaning for both of them so that what is conveyed by the communicator is received correctly and appropriately by the communicant.

With the sign and the meaning of the communication perfectly formed like what we feel every day. Let us use the existing signs wisely to build the correct meaning.
